JUNIPERO SERRA HIGH SCHOOL IS SMALLEST SCHOOL EVER TO BE NAMED STATE SCHOOL OF THE YEAR BY CAL-HI SPORTS

 

Junipero Serra High School’s notable athletic success this year has garnered it state and national recognition as an emerging sports powerhouse, despite its relatively small enrollment. Students will return to school this month to find that Serra has become the smallest school ever to be named State School of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports.

 

Equally as impressive, ESPN has ranked Serra fourth in the nation among all high schools for multi-sport excellence.

 

In winning State School of the Year honors, the Serra Cavaliers beat out perennial powerhouses Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), both of which are more than twice the size of Serra, which has an enrollment of just under 600 students.

 

This year, the Cavaliers won two CIF state titles (football, basketball), and nearly won a third (track & field).  They also won five section titles in the highly-competitive CIF Southern Section. Additionally, the girls’ basketball team reached the CIF Southern Section Division IV quarterfinals.
