One of The Things I Worry About
Networks powering industrial control systems in nuclear power plants, hydroelectric plants, water utilities and the oil industry have been breached more than 125 times in the past decade, with one incident resulting in U.S. deaths, a control systems expert told a Senate panel Thursday. The control system sector is well behind the IT industry in cybersecurity defenses, said Joseph Weiss, managing partner of control systems security consultancy Applied Control Solutions, and a coordinated attack "could be devastating to the U.S. economy and security. We're talking months to recover. We're not talking days."
